::"charen" ECP

Me, my bike and some other assorted people (ok la, Sis and Gwen) 'charen' (challenge) park connector to ecp today. (Um, I think I'm supposed to be doing project hor? hehe)

Finally we reached ecp! As in really! (Ok, we would have got there the last time, but a certain somebody was put off by the fact that the rest of the park connector was still under construction, this time round, without that somebody, we took an alternate route) Anyway, we didn't have much choice cause we wanted to have lunch at macs and no one knew of any other place around ecp where we could have a cheapo lunch.

Had lunch at macs. The person there was really blur. She mixed up everything that could be mixed up. We ordered a medium coke and a medium orange juice, a mcspicy burger and a mcchicken burger.

First, she gave me a mcspicy meal. Then, she mistook the mcchicken burger for guess what? MCNUGGET meal? Then, she thought we wanted Sprite and Coke. We ended up with a mcchicken burger, a mcspicy burger, regular orange juice, and my sis had to make do with Sprite. At least we got a mccafe voucher for our pains.

While in macs, I noticed: Cannondale is giving away a $2000 bike! All you need to do is answer some shit easy question! WOOHOOO!! I'm still agonising about whether to sms my answer to them or not and allow my number to be added to some huge advertising database. Hey, but if it's Cannondale, why not? Anyway, their ads will be wasted on me cause (i) I have no money (ii) I am the kind of person who will only replace components when they spoil.

On our way back, my bike ran over its first (already dead) roadkill. It was a totally flattened feathery thing (dead bird lah) at the side of the road. I only saw it when my wheel was almost on it. Then I couldn't move out to avoid it cause I was on the road. Fortunately, it didn't fly up and slap me on the face. GROSS!!!!

Then at the last park connector bit, we passed these two guys with gloves and other bike stuff pushing bikes (a grey 2006 GT Avalanche (I think) and another bike that I didn't notice, also chio) out from the HDB flats. And I thought, wow chio bikes.
Then, according to my sis, when I passed them, they said "Wow! GT!"

Then they proceeded to follow me on their bikes for the rest of the park connector bit. You know how I know they were following? Cause we opened up a big big space for them to pass and guess what they didn't. And they were following pretty close some more, duh, how not to find out.

And they weren't even wanting to follow me anyway. They were following my bike, and I was on it, therefore they were following me, but their intention was not to follow me, it was to follow my bike.

(Next to my bike, I feel so insignificant. My presence is negated.)

Then they overtook us (which was fucking easy cause we were still in what the hell mode), stopped at the foot of the little hill thingy at the end and pushed their bikes up to the traffic light. Gwen didn't want to cross with them cause she didn't want us and our bikes to look 'pok' beside them (told you you should ride your Gary Fisher, then they will be like "Wow! GT!", then "WOW!!! GARY FISHER!!! 0_0") Then I was like, ah, whatever la, and rode up the hill to the traffic light. (Pok then pok lor. I am proud of my pok-ness! I am wearing like $7 market shorts! I have no chio high tech bike gear! I am ah beng techno-loving bike uncle/bangla-in-training! Heh.)

So, I dismounted behind them and the first question they asked me was:

"Is that your bike?"

WTF? Does it not look like my bike? Duh of course!

Very hard to believe hor?
Kid around the neighbourhood who just go happy happy casual ride with friends cannot have chio bike meh?
Only cheong cheong rider can have chio bike meh?
Then I fated to ride falling-to-bits Urata and nothing else arh?
Siao!

Then they asked me how much it cost. So I told them I couldn't remember. Cause I really couldn't remember. (For those curious people, now I remember I got it for $460 cause I'm familiar with the shop, and besides, they're clearing the 2005 bikes, and now I get free spokes and stuff when I go there :D)

Anyway, they found out I got it this year and my sis told them that it was a present from someone. (It is lah.)

Even after we went in different directions, they were still looking at my bike.

Um,
Chio bike does not mean hardcore rider.
Might just mean that the owner is more materialistic.

Also,
Somehow GT bikes seem to make people excited.
Even my bike, which is kind of like an entry-level bike anyways (but good enough for me!)
Cannot even bring it to coffeeshop without it getting at least one 'that kind of look' from passers-bys.
One of the reasons that I don't like to take it out so often.

Um, how bout Specialized then? Klein? Trek?
Or those road bike things?
The wonderfully magnesium Pinarello Dogma?
Will they like hyperventilate then?
