Sunday, July 30, 2006

Just installed my new DVD drive, to replace my old one that spoiled.

It's ok except that I can't see the led from the front of my case without opening the little window thingy (which is a pity cuz it's blue, and blue leds are nice).

::One hell of a rocking weekend

This weekend was Baybeats weekend. And of course I was there, as always. Couldn't make it on Friday because of my bike lesson, so Saturday and Sunday had to do.

Saturday:

Headed down to Esplanade to meet my sis and her friends, and we had burgers at Carls Jr at Marina Square(this part is important!). One of her friends had no intention of going to Baybeats cause, well, she's not interested in rock music. The other was quite curious, until we walked around the outside of Marina Square.

(hears boom boom sound)

Friend: Is that the concert?

Sis: Yes.

(Friend decides not to go after all.)

I asked Gwen along but unfortunately she had diarrhoea. So it was just me and my sis. We stayed to around 9-something, and then suddenly, I had a massive stomachache.

It was the burger speaking. And not in a very pleasant way, I'm afraid.

Our dinner was contaminated! :(
So think twice before you go to Carls Jr......
As a result, we left early. Had to take a taxi. And then, we got stuck in a jam (the car kind, not the band kind, or the bread kind, or whatever).
:(

Well, at least we got this year's Baybeats t-shirt. We even got the 04 Baybeats shirt (actually I have one already, but sadly it got damaged one day in the wash....)

Unfortunately, the 04 shirt was too small. My sister had miscalculated the size.

=_="'

Sunday:

So, of course we had to go back the next day (like of course, we missed all the fun yesterday!)

This time, we had dinner at home. No screw ups here.
And Gwen made it! But pretty late haha.....

And I got the shirt changed! At first they were like, "We can't change it for hygiene reasons." Then, I kept persuading (talking crap at) them until they let me change it. And of course, I lied a lot.

The music was great. There was this band from Norway called Beezewax. I thought they were good so I got their cd (for $20, not cheap leh!) and then I went to get their autograph.
Unfortunately, when it was my turn I was struck speechless from nervousness.
It was damn awkward.
It's not everyday you get up close and personal with four good-looking, talented, hot, sweaty Norwegians.
As a result, I acted like a total moron.
Argh.
Anyway, everyone I noticed were giving them the Baybeats freebies to sign.
Not good for Singapore's image.....hehe
They might think Singaporeans are a bunch of cheapos, except for one who is a moron.
><

Anyway, as usual, the music was great.
Hope to be there again next year.

::Don't drink and drive when you can smoke and fly.

taken from maybelline's blog.
red parts added by me.

/**/

those who want to drink, don't drive.

those who want to drive, don't drink.

those who don't ever drink, by all means drive.

those who are drunk have no business driving.
(Especially drunk taxi drivers 0_o)

anyway singapore is a convenient place.

got mrt, bus, taxi, can hitch a ride from friends sometimes...

(
even though the only direct bus route goes in one big loop
or else have to change multiple buses,

sometimes got no seat must stand carrying three thick books,

sometimes got molester,

sometimes got stinky people,

sometimes got noisy people,

quite often bus break down because poorly maintained despite increasing fare hikes

(one time nearly caught fire, smoking already)

and never can get a taxi / bus / mrt when you need it
then they all come when you don't.
)

sometimes driving is also quite troublesome too...

must worry about parking lots, time, etc.

(
for bus also have to worry about time,
how often have you thought, "If this bus doesn't come in the next x minutes then I'm screwed?"
Because bus fail to arrive on time and then tada! two come together?
Anyhow run across the road through traffic so that don't need to wait for the next bus
because this particular bus no. (from experience) only comes every 15 minutes?
And cannot afford another 15 minutes otherwise you'll be late?

Not forgetting the loopy route.
I take like 1 hr to get to school.
Then, my friend was saying that the trip didn't need one hour.
One day, I took taxi.
I was surprised at how much less time it took.
(Cause direct route, don't need to stop at all the stops, wait for old lady to ask , or else like 30 students to get off)
But try taking taxi everyday.
Even better, try getting taxi to wait for you downstairs everyday.
(It's possible la, but only if u got alot of $$$)

Take bus must take this, that into consideration.
Wake up earlier, because must take loopy route, bus coming late, etc. into consideration.
And what's more, you cannot control these factors.
)

and when one is tired, still have to worry about driving and the car.

(
Yes I agree,
it's dangerous to drive when tired.
(Imagine what you will do to the poor motorcyclists and cyclists!)
Then, it's your own responsibility
Get enough sleep at night, don't every day watch soccer
If really need to watch soccer then take bus the next day.
Needs some discipline.

And before I end,

How to go makan at places where buses don't go?
Or go home when you're at some ulu place in the middle of the night with no taxi in sight?

How to bring your pet to the vet?
When some taxis don't accept animals?
When some buses don't accept animals?
And your pet is throwing up non-stop and bleeding like crazy?

How to bring a bicycle around?
Maybe you ride there?
If it's at the other end of Singapore, then you ride there also?
Before going to your mass cycling event to ... cycle some more? ><
Sorry, I am not Lance Armstrong.
(That's why I always end up cursing lousy rental bicycle.)

So it's good to drive.
Have more choices what you want to do, depending on the situation.
Even better, have car and bicycle.
Can take some time off to wear funny colourful tight clothes and save the earth.
(Or if you are like me, wear t-shirt and shorts and get exercise and free ride to makan la.)

For me, I want bicycle, van and motorcycle.
Or maybe bicycle, van, car and motorcycle.
If I got enough money that is.
(Important not to get something you cannot afford to maintain.)
At this rate, I think I riding bicycle and motorcycle for the rest of my life la.
(And cheapo bicycle and motorcycle some more)

Anyway, no harm getting class 2b, 2a, 2, 3 and maybe even 4!
Even if don't actually drive, it's still a good experience.
Even though it can make you very sad, frustrated, etc. it's also very fun!
And you never know when you may need all those licenses.

Wow, this has turned into a rant about the public transport in Singapore.
